The Endless Afghan - The Eighth Square

Remember the movie "Alien"? There is a scene where the alien larvae leaps onto the face of the victim and attaches itself. That larvae is called a "Face Hugger". How do I know this? Well, my son has a "Face Hugger" stuffed animal. (Don't ask.)

Now take a look at the square designed by Ginette Belanger.

Remind you of anything?

Don't get me wrong, I think the square is lovely and it was a lot of fun to knit. But when it was done, all I could think of was the movie.

That is something strange!! (I had to laugh, when I read your post...I remember being 8 years old and nearly scared to death by that thing, but sure wouldn't admit it at the time!)

Now there's a connection I wouldn't have made! But I'm pretty sure that face-hugger is going to give me nightmares. Who decided that would make a good bedtime companion for a kid?

Ack, woman. Sorry, I have a deep an unabiding case of the willies from those movies. Now why does your son have a stuffed one, and where on earth did you find it?

Having never had children, I find myself regularly compelled to ask pregnant women (mostly my friends, not strangers) if they feel like Sigourney Weaver when that baby is growing in their belly and then comes popping out at the end. I know it's not exactly like that but it's an image that stuck with me. (maybe that explains why I don't have children)

I like the square.
